fresh picked

We spent the day with old friends and got super inspired by their amazing garden, just bursting with all sorts of flowers, herbs, and veggies. Eating fresh country food on the deck while we watched humming birds flutter around, made our time together extra special. We are definitely going to plant a small kitchen garden when we get home to Florida!

full belly and a new jump rope

We just had a lovely lunch at a cafe on the Columbia river and at the end of the meal, our waitress took the boys back to the kitchen where they made ice cream sundaes and then picked out a prize from the treasure chest. Both picked jump ropes!

looking out

We don’t see too many mountains in Florida…or waterfalls for that matter. So, when we hiked to this lookout in the Columbia River Gorge and saw FIVE snow covered mountains from one overlook, it was a big deal! Check it out: Mt Jefferson, Mt Hood, Mt Adams, Mt Rainer and Mt St Helens.

Unfortunately, the point & shoot camera does not like bright sun very much these days…

mirror, mirror

The other day after we saw Toy Story 3 (LOVED IT, by the way), I was washing my hands in the ladies room at the theater and the boys were doing the same in the men’s room. For a minute, I thought I was hallucinating…because I saw Cal in the mirror. Turns out the theater has little peek-a-boo slices slices of glass window in between the mirrors, so fun!

high above Oregon

It is pretty amazing to see so many snow covered peaks here, especially in summer! We rode up to the top of Mt. Hood via ski lift, for a little fun in the snow….this is the 2nd time my kids have seen snow (the first was last year on our summer vacation in Alaska). Of course, the very first things they wanted to do was have a snowball fight!

iPhone camera fun

Happiness. The real deal.

flying high

We spent the day at the Tree to Tree Adventure Park today which is ” a playground in the trees featuring aerial ropes courses, zip lines, and tree top obstacles unlike anything you’ve ever seen” and it truly was nothing like I have even seen before! We suited up in mountain climbing gear, had our safety lesson, and were off in the tree tops for hours, conquering fears and building confidence like nobody’s business! What a fantastic family experience we had…

I only wish I had a hot tub right now. And a massage therapist.

(The point & shoot camera really loved the covered shade here today. Wish I had light this lovely everywhere we go!)

fine dining? over it.

We love good food…and we try a couple of new restaurants each day because we cannot get anything even close to west coast cuisine where we live in Florida.  My poor kids sometimes are *not* in the mood for the foodie lifestyle (though they loved the homemade mac and cheese at Urban Farmer, one of my favorite Portland restaurants). Sometimes though, we get this sort of protest…it can be hard to sit still.
